HMRC closed its free filing service on 31 March 2026. The usual choice now is between software you run yourself and an accountant charging several hundred pounds.

This is a third option. You answer 10 simple questions online. I prepare your accounts and your CT600. Once you have approved them, I file both with Companies House and HMRC.

What it costs

The price is fixed. It depends on the total cash received into your business bank account in the year.

Most small companies need the standard filing. The managed service is explained further down.

What is included

  • Micro-entity accounts (FRS 105), filed at Companies House.

  • Your CT600 Company Tax Return, filed with HMRC, with the tax computation and the accounts in iXBRL, the tagged format HMRC requires.

  • Draft accounts and CT600 sent to you for approval before anything is filed.

  • A check of your answers by a chartered accountant, and a question back to you if something does not look right.

What is not included

Bookkeeping, VAT returns, payroll and your personal tax return. If your company needs those through the year, a full-service accountant will suit you better.

How long it takes

The questions take about 10 minutes. Your draft accounts and CT600 are ready by the next working day. Nothing is filed until you have approved them, so how soon they are filed after that is up to you.

Who does the work

I do. I’m a chartered accountant and a member of ICAEW (member number 1882910), and I trained at PwC. I prepare and review every set of accounts myself.

The service is run by Drummond Advisory Ltd, company number 15208903. The firm is supervised by ICAEW for anti-money laundering and holds professional indemnity insurance.

Standard filing or managed service

Standard filing works from your answers to the 10 questions. It suits a company where everything went through the business bank account.

You need the managed service if any of these apply:

  • You owed the company money at the year end.

  • The company is VAT registered.

  • Some income or costs did not go through the business bank account.

  • Last year’s accounts need correcting.

With the managed service I work from your records and not only from your answers. If your company needs more than that, I tell you what it will cost before I start.

Who this is for

Small UK limited companies with simple finances: consultants, freelancers, small trading companies, dormant companies and companies that barely traded.

It is not for groups, companies with complicated tax affairs, or companies in heavily regulated industries.

Questions

Do you file both the Companies House accounts and the HMRC return?

Yes. One set of answers produces both. I file the accounts at Companies House and the CT600 with HMRC.

Do you produce the iXBRL accounts HMRC asks for?

Yes. HMRC only accepts the accounts and tax computation that go with a CT600 in iXBRL, a tagged electronic format. I produce them as part of the filing, so you do not need separate software.

Is this software or an accountant?

An accountant. You answer questions online, which is the part that feels like software. A chartered accountant then prepares the accounts and the tax return and files them. You do not need to know how to prepare accounts.

What do I need to get started?

Your company name, to find it at Companies House, and about 10 minutes. To file, I need your Companies House authentication code and the company’s Corporation Tax UTR. That is the company’s UTR, not your personal Self Assessment one.

My accounts are due this month. Is there time?

Usually, yes. Drafts are ready by the next working day. If your deadline is within a few days, tell me when you start.

My accounts are already late. Can you still file them?

Yes. Companies House charges a penalty for late accounts, starting at £150, and it rises the longer they are outstanding. Filing sooner keeps the penalty lower.

Is it a subscription?

Yes. It is an annual subscription that covers one year’s accounts and CT600. You can cancel at any time.
